Kelly Church

I use the black ash tree, birch bark, Sweetgrass, and fibers from Michigan forests to create weavings, baskets, bracelets and sculptural work using quilling for embellishments. Each piece starts with knowledge that has been passed on for countless centuries to harvest and process the materials to create innovative work that share stories today.  I use metals and photos to embellish baskets, to share the loss of black ash to the Emerald Ash Borer. Each piece combines the past with the present, while sustaining these teachings for future generations.
